The Advocate is the official
student publication of Far Eastern University (FEU), in Manila,
Philippines. Established July 12, 1934, and was named as the
first weekly student publication in the Philippines. In 1950,
The Advocate exposed the anomalies of the Philippine military in
Luzon that became the school paper more prominent. During the
1970's, after the declaration of Martial Law by the former and
late Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos, almost all
publications criticizing the government were forced to shut
down, including The Advocate.
The Advocate was
then revived by the initiative of the Far Eastern University
Central Student Organization (FEUSCO) in the early 90's. By the
year 1998, the first Advocate Exams were held, then formed the
first editorial board during its revival. The Advocate later
produced 3 issues in its "revival stage".
The school paper
made itself online through the efforts of the former editor in
chief Jasper Barcelon, managing editor Robald Castillon, the
first web editor Engel Ang Tong, and art director Armani Garcia,
on September 25, 2006. For website information, click HERE
The student
publication currently releases its issues monthly in print and
online, and member of the College Editors Guild of the
Philippines. The Advocate is now located at the ground floor of
the Education Building of Far Eastern University along Nicanor
Reyes St., Sampaloc, Manila, Philippines. |

Tamolito Bigaybuhay
is the official mascot of The Advocate. Created in the year
2000, by the former art director of The Advocate, Erich Rafer
from the Institute of Architecture and Fine Arts, Tamolito
serves as the student publication's icon since its conception.
Currently adapted by the artist's successors, Tamolito's image
is likened to that of an FEU student faced with different issues
inside the university in a comic way. The character appears on
The Advocate's issues regularly. For Terms of Use, click HERE |
