“The role of elected leaders, therefore, is to live up to the
inherent duties of the revered political seats while Filipinos
still believe in peaceful processes and respect for rule of
law.”
So
stressed Ada Peñaflor, a graduating masscom major, who won as
champion of the prestigious 5th Oratorical Contest for College
Students sponsored by the Community Chest Foundation, Inc. at
the Philippine International Convention Center last February 29,
2008.
Peñaflor won a trophy and a cash prize of P30,000.00 for besting
grand finalists from Adamson University, Dominican College,
Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST),
PATS College of Aeronautics, J.P. Sioson General Hospital and
Colleges, Philippine Normal University (PNU), PMI Colleges,
Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) and New Era University.
“A Message to Our Leaders” was the competition’s theme. Senator
Aquilino Pimentel and Justice Rizalina S. Bonifacio Vera graced
the event that aimed to provide an avenue for the youth to
articulate their concerns to the country’s leaders.
Dr. Zenaida S. Martinez trained Peñaflor while Prof. Joeven R.
Castro wrote the piece.
Peñaflor is a perennial champion of all oratorical competitions
like those sponsored by the Knights of Rizal (Regional level)
and the Forensics Society of the San Sebastian College-Recoletos.
