The Oratorical and Debate Council (ORADEC) left no gold
to rival schools after winning four gold medals in the 2008
Golden Stag Quest, a public speaking contest sponsored by San
Sebastian College Recoletos, Manila last February 1.
With the theme, “Globalization: Empowering the Youth
through Academic Excellence and Strengthening Filipino Values”,
ORADEC contestants in oration and extemporaneous speech
emphasized how Filipino values can strengthen global
competitiveness.
The winners were Michael Jay Foz for oration, Aireen
Sigaya for oral interpretation, Arvin Baracena for elocution and
Ramon Victor Roxas for extemporaneous speech.
All are taking up A.B Mass Communication except for
Roxas who is an Associate in Health and Science Education (AHSE)
student.
Prof. Joeven Castro, faculty from the Department of
Communication, Institute of Arts and Sciences, trained the
contestants in the extemporaneous speech and oral interpretation
while Dr. Zenaida Martinez, department of communication
Institute of Arts and Sciences (IAS) consultant for oration and
Theater Guild President Henrick Chiu for elocution.
Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and University of
the East ranked second and third place respectively.
