Season 70 Most Valuable Player and Season 71 Best Midfielder Francis Gustillo’s goal in the 13th minute huddled an early celebration for the green and gold community.
Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws clamped down defending champions University of the Philippines (UP) Maroons, 2-1, last January 31 at Ateneo de Manila University Erenchun Field.
Gustillo’s winning attack alarmed UP booters making Allen Senna rush to hit an effort but to no avail as he hit their own goal in the 15th minute of the first half.
After a 2-0 upset to UP, midfielder Francis Liza of FEU chalked in a fast pace hit to score in the 32nd minute of the first half.
FEU did not let the Diliman-based booters to hit a goal within 45 minutes, thus remaining scoreless in the second half.
“Total preparation and recovery after this round are what they need right now,” Coach Rodolfo Alicante said regarding his wards.
Alicante believes that his wards need total recovery before gunning for another lineup of wins in the next round.
“Masaya kami dahil naabot namin ‘yung goal namin na makapasok sa top two pero nape-ppresure din kami ngayon (We’re happy to reach our goal but we still feel pressured),” Alicante said.
The Tamaraws are on the second spot next to University of Santo Tomas with a 3-1-1 win-loss-draw record as of press time.
