    They’re nearing on top.

Far Eastern University (FEU) turned Adamson University Falcons’ feathers into ashes in a three-set sweep, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-21, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 72 last January 30 at the FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan City.

Tamaraw spirit bustled all over the court on the close third set. FEU gave away points from their series of unforced errors on attack and service department.

However, FEU immediately grabbed the lead with Kirk Beliran and Ronald Tonquin’s offensive combination. AdU tried to catch up through Jeruz Nito but the Falcons’ uncontrolled ball handling halted the chance.

FEU completely controlled the second set. Active floor defense and service aces inched away the Tams’ lead. Falcons rattled for defense as Tams rushed back-to-back plays that edged their way to seal a 13-point lead.

A fiery Morayta-based squad welcomed the first set after the green and gold outsmarted Falcons with their smart drop leaving AdU fleeting in pain.

“Malalaki kasi ‘yung Adamson kaya sa drop ball na-intimidate namin ‘yung bagal nila (Adamson players are tall so we used drop balls to intimidate their speed),” said Coach George Pascua on their edge on the game.

Being in the second spot with a 9-2 win-loss slate in the tourney’s second round, the team is very optimistic to reach the finals that slipped on their way last season.

Nestor Molate led the team with 12 points from attacks. Team Captain Rodolfo Labrador pocketed 11 markers followed by Beliran and Joshua Alcarde’s nine apiece.
